Crochet Projects

Crochet projects are addictive...especially when there is no pattern involved. I like to make my own design, and see what I can create. The process is a love/hate relationship. In the beginning I am excited to get it going, and I can visualize the end project, but by the time I am half way done I get discouraged. But I crochet on closer to the finish line. Towards the end of the project momentum builds and I become excited to finish. All in all it is a rewarding process, and it allows me to express my creativity. I love to think the things I make live on and may even out live me.

It's Mimi's birthday gift from me. She picked out the colors. I have to make 20 squares, and then I will connect them, and make a nice pink border around them. I can't wait to put it on her bed.

I can't believe it's mid-November. My work station shows it. I have 5 different projects going on. I know. 5. That is too many. Look at my space:

I finished The Bastard of Istanbul. I really enjoyed the book. It didn't have this perfect Hollywood ending either, and I can appreciate that.

Yep, it broke. It broke the day we had the new heater installed. Just a clumsy move on my part was all it took. It may sound really weird, but I think I may like it more now. Not that I like having broken things, but it reminded me to enjoy things while you have them, and not keep them aside for someday.

My neighbors have lost their minds. It is Fall and the leaves are falling, and this must have triggered insanity because they all spent the entire weekend attacking leaves, bagging leaves, mulching leaves, etc.

Mimi picks out her clothes now. She doesn't pick them out when I buy them, but she certainly is opinionated about what I do buy. She wears mostly skirts these days, and she always wears some stripey tights with them. She will throw clothes around like a teenager when she is searching for the perfect ensemble. Look at her dresser, and this is a good day!

These days Moe is all about computer games :
He got a hair cut. I think he looks so grown up now! My baby is no longer a baby! And Mimi will be 5 soon! How did that happen so fast??!

I want life to slow down so I can enjoy each moment more .

Tomorrow will be pure chaos! We are getting a new heater installed. It will take 5-8 hours!!! And Moe has a dentist appt for another filling.

Maybe life can slow down after tomorrow?? I hope it goes quick and pain-free!

We've been busy bees making things!

Moe made me a self portrait:

I love it. I think it is impressive! He is reports he is not happy though. Mimi asked him why, and he said he has a rash. He doesn't have a rash, so I have no idea where this came from.

Mimi made her friend Brendan a picture. Brendan happens to LOVE Thomas the Train.

She did all the writing herself. She did ask how to spell Brendan's name. She is becoming quite the reader and writer.

I got some books the other day. Books make me happy.

I had mixed feelings about Spark's The Notebook....The movie made me cry crocodile tears. And it has death in it too. As mentioned before, I don't like death books. But the book was a quarter. I figured someone would read it if I didn't.

My mom bought Ralphie this shirt. It is weird having a dog in clothes. I guess we will get used to it.

Isn't Ralphie so cute? He has grown so much and looks so mature now. He used to be the size of a hamster. :)

I have made all sorts of things, and I wanted to share them with you, but my camera's battery died. I need to find the charger. It is in one of our many junk drawers. I have had dreams of being killed by clutter. I really hate it. I bet those of you who know me didn't know that. I actually love getting rid of things. I do have a lot of crafting supplies. That is one allowable source of clutter, but all other sources I despise.

I made the mistake of looking at a decorating blog today. Everything was so neatly organized. Everything had a place of its' own. What a nice thought. I also realized my house breaks about every design rule out there. That is fine by me.

I stopped by the local goodwill yesterday and scored some good books. I am excited. I am reading The Magician's Assistant. It is good so far, but it has a lot of death in it, and death is not a subject I enjoy reading about or even thinking about. In fact, I would like to not die ever. In fact, I would like all the people I love to live forever.

Moe had a filling today. The dentist was super nice. He drilled it out and filled it without giving him a shot, and it worked wonderfully. Moe was out of there in 10 minutes or less. It was a great experience. He is going to need two more fillings. He's been on lots of antibiotics for ear infections. He has taken more than his fair share of medications in the last several years. I like that the dentist did not restrain him and that he allowed me back in the room with him. Some local ones restrain the kids and won't allow parents back there.

I have made zero progress on the quilting. But, I am crocheting a lot. I am trading some fingerless gloves and scarves with an etsy store owner. I am excited! If anyone else wants to trade, let me know. I am up for it! I hope to either make or trade all the gifts I give this year.

Random Thoughts

Ralphie has surgery tomorrow. :( Hopefully it will go okay, and he'll come home pain-free. I feel a little guilty getting him neutered, but I guess it is the right thing to do.

The kids have changed their costumes yet again. Mimi is going to go as a ballerina/princess. You can be both, you know. Moe is going as a Wiggle. I am hoping he sticks with this because all I have to do is put him in the appropriate color and off he goes. He vacillates between a Wiggle and Oscar the Grouch. I have a lot of green fur. I guess I will make little monsters out of it.

Kevin fixed my sewing machine. I somehow bent the needle and it scratched the bobbin case. So after replacing the needle, it still kept breaking the thread. I guess that little bur was enough to do it. So, Kevin used the dremel and polished it right out. Thanks Kevin!! I was worried for a bit that it might be the end of my machine. I couldn't figure it out. He is good at troubleshooting.

This week has dragged on and on. Every day has felt like Friday. I think it has been because of the weather. It is very "bleh" here. The sun isn't shining on us. It is cooler, and very wet out. The kids still manage to get some swingset time in, but they also manage to get pretty muddy.

I am crocheting up a storm trying to get enough to open an etsy store. Kevin said he'd do all the setting up, so all I have to do is make and write up a description. I can handle this, I think.

I started reading a great book. It is a great read. I am hooked. In fact, I must go read some more now. I love reading while the kids nap. :)

I play with my kid's toys. Sometimes I buy toys for them that I want. Sad? Probably.

I scored this sweet garden collection at a yard sale for $1.50. Amazing. And it comes in a nice tote with a lid. I think we are going to give it to Mimi for her birthday.

I am mulling it over still. I love these vintage fabrics, and I know how I want it to look, but I worry I won't be able to achieve that vision! I am gonna give it a try though. I really want to be a quilter.

He and the kids have had the most fun making the things in it and reading the stories. Kevin's advice is to pre-fold before doing with your kids.

I've been crafting like crazy the last few days. I guess being sick and out of commission for a week was hard on the creative side of me! I need to take more pictures...maybe later.

I probably need to do a better job with the picture taking. I tend to shoot away whether the lighting is good or not....and I pay little attention to the surrounding clutter. Maybe I should start staging a little. I don't know.

I go back and forth on the selling. I never sell anything. I give away things. It is how I am. I don't even have yard sales. I go to yard sales...My husband will tell you I go to lots of yard sales! I think I would rather trade than sell. I can appreciate most things handmade with a few exceptions...like the ones posted here. Another issue is the mailing. I tend to be lazy when it comes to venturing out into the world. And I'd have to take the kids. Moe is not patient at all when it comes to waiting in line.

I have some general ideas about what I'd like to make....gloves, hats, scarves...I'd like to make $5 gifts. In this economy, we need as many of those as possible! I tend to get all my supplies super cheap-o so I'd like to pass that on.

I guess I am rambling. I should go do some housework!

I am happy to report I am better. The flu totally kicked my butt though. I have never been so sick, and I am thankful no one else got it. Kevin did a good job taking over and making sure things got done. I could not have done it myself.

It is funny how things can change in a week.

The dog learned a new trick: chase your tail.
Kevin is proud he taught him this. I was hoping for "sit" or "stay."

Well, I had big plans to get an Etsy store going....I still plan on it, but it will be a bit delayed due to my illness. That flu really took away all my energy. I hoped to have a store to show.... I want to sell crochet things and maybe some sewn items. I have some crafty friends who I think can offer up some things too.

I am on day 6 of the stomach flu. I think I am getting a little better. I have moments of wellness, and I can remember what my life used to be like....

The thing I miss the most is hugging and kissing my people....I can't wait to hold my kids!!

This scarf and fingerless gloves were an easy project that took less than two hours to complete. Finding the perfect buttons was fun. I hope Aimee likes them.

This boy loves his Papaw. Yes, Papaw has a moustache. Moe colored this on with several types of markers--some washable while others not--so, he still has some of his 'stache left even after some scrubbing.

It's raining today. Yuck-o. We are trapped indoors, and we are already feeling some cabin fever. I dread the upcoming months of cabin fever.

Kevin hooked me up with some storage. You have no idea how happy this makes me. I have thousands of buttons. I adore buttons...especially vintage ones. Now, I have most all of them in a central spot.

Ralphie is recovering from his "snausages" poisoning.
I bought the pup some treats. We gave them to him all the time, and Kevin would often say in falsetto "snausages!" Well, we kind of noticed he looked like he was losing weight and from time to time he would vomit. We were concerned, but not overly so. And then one day, while pouring my coffee, I read the back of the treat bag, and it said :

Refrigerate after opening!

Oop! Maybe we aren't responsible enough to have a pet in our care? ;)

My brother and his wife just returned from vacation. They got me the coolest pendant:
And after returning, my brother learned he passed the bar!!! He gets sworn in later this month!!! I am so proud of him!
