Snow, Stories, & Making Things

The kids finally got their way! It snowed. They have been in and out all day.

They altered the "Frosty" song so that his eyes are made of rosemary and a carrot for his nose. He is a cute snowman! Kevin helped them while I watched from inside!

Mimi had to write one sentence in class the other day. And then they were to draw a picture. She did much more that that! I am impressed!

I finished many projects this weekend. Here is an owl for a good friend of ours. I hope he likes it!
I put a pocket on the backside for books or whatever he wants to put in there. Mimi said she thought his looked better than hers. SIGH. That is the bad thing about making things for kids. If she spies one of the creations, she wants it! :)

I also gave my first quilt some much needed attention, and I think it looks so much better. I should have taken better photos, but I was in a hurry. I ended up getting the Quilting for Dummies book and it helped me. This quilt is definitely been a learning experience!

We have been busy here. It's that time of year--crunch time--and it always makes me a little nutty. I have to hurry up on making things. And of course my sewing machine feels the pressure and is refusing to cooperate.

I did manage to make Mimi a big throw pillow for her floor. It also serves as a door for her dollhouse. It keeps Ralphie out of her dollhouse. Here is the pillow:

Mimi has been having a lot of fun with this book:
It is very relaxing. I tried one out last night too. Here is one Mimi is working on now:
If you are running out of gift ideas, consider this book. I think almost any age would enjoy it. Get some Dollar General $1 markers and it makes a fine gift.

Mimi was helping Kevin with house projects and she made a list for them:

I have been trying to get good pics of the kids. They are not cooperating. Moe is a robot all the time now. He must have the toilet paper rolls on his hands to be the robot.
Mimi thinks these would be great X-mas pics to pass on.

Making Things & Firsts

It has been so busy around here. We have been running here and there non stop for over a week now. We've also kept busy making things!

Mimi has had her eye on this dollhouse for awhile now, but she didn't want to spend all her money on it, and it doesn't come with a family either. So, she drew a floor plan, and asked Kevin to make it.

She helped him, and here is what they came up with:

Isn't it fantastic? I really like it. I have been asked to make a rug for it! I feel honored! Mimi kept thanking me, and I finally asked why...since she and Kevin were doing all the work! And she said she was thanking me because I hoarded all the wood and without it they wouldn't have been able to make it! ;)- See! All hoarding is not bad!!!!! hehehehe

Mimi also had a big event in her life! She had her first tooth pulled.

She is quite proud of it. She was a little sore afterwards, and Ralphie seemed to know it, so he comforted her. Thankfully the dog does have some good qualities!!!!

The kids got a balloon kit from their Mamaw and Papaw, and they have had so much fun with it. I have balloon animals all over the house. :)

I made two pillows for the sofa. I really love all the colors here. I think she makes beautiful things. So, I was inspired to take on this project!
I hand sewed it onto an existing pillow cover with yarn. It was an easy cheat.

Creating & Scarf Project

This project was on delay forever it seems. I had a hard time getting an "E" and a "R." For awhile I thought I was only going to make a "BAD" sign. If you ever want to cut a license plate up, you need tin snips. I nailed the top and bottom of each letter to the wood.

My favorite part is that the "B" came from a CA plate, and above the letter is "for"....so it looks like "for BREAD" and I find that charming!

Mimi's been hard at work too. She is making turkey art for gifts.

Isn't this so stinking cute?? She has such initiative. She will sit and create the coolest things.

The Party is Over!

This year I helped out at my daughter's school. I helped plan the Fall Party. It was a lot of fun, and everything went well. No one cried. No one complained. So I call that a success!

Here are some things I worked on:
Turkey bowling!

28 owls!!!! I had anxiety I would be short or somehow miscount and have an unhappy kiddo, but it worked out. I apparently can count! There were 14 girls and 14 boys. They all seemed happy with them and liked the secret pocket!

The poem was glued to the back of the paper. And it could be sung to the "Farmer and the Dell" melody. The kids seemed to like this one too. I think singing and glue made them like it.

Also, we played turkey bingo! The kids had to get 5 feathers in a row. It seemed to be okay.

I have more to share, but I need to get pics. My brother in law drew an awesome turkey for the kids to color, and we made wreaths. Also, there was a ping pong toss. And even another game that required the kids to use their memory to remember what was missing!

WHEW! I am glad it is over, and I am so happy I was able to be part of it! I do feel relief now that it is over! I at least know it was a success and the kids had fun.

I read that Bill Nye the Science Guy fell on stage yesterday and no one jumped up to help him, instead they twittered (or is it twitted??) and texted about it. The story bothered me. People should come before twitter accounts and text messaging.

Making Stuff & Silliness

For a long time now Skipper had no hand. She was attacked by a shark, but doesn't like to talk about it. SO, Kevin took the dremel to her arm, and there you go. Now she has a hand. Kevin is not a licensed surgeon, so maybe keep this on the down low....

I made some more curtains. Yes, the bottom part was a shower curtain. For some reason it was on clearance at Target. Maybe no one wanted this color in their bathroom? I like it as a curtain. The top part was a real bugger to sew though. It has all these beads in it, and I had to remove the ones in the line of the sewing machine needle. I ended up missing two and breaking two needles. Oh well. You live and learn!

I cut wings and beaks for 14 more owls. After I make this 14 I will be done with the owls!!! I am looking forward to having this project completed.

This is our last batch of tomatoes! I know we were incredibly lucky to have a garden last so long in the year, but now I regret saying I was tired of tomatoes. Nothing compares to a home grown garden tomato. Don't let those look-alike store tomatoes fool you! They look pretty, but lack the flavor of garden ones.

Kevin made the cat, Stripey Stop Sign, a proper scratcher. I want a new couches this upcoming year, and I am NOT going to do it if she keeps it up. I feel conflicted about declawing. I want to make a pact with her instead....I will give her catnip and seafood medley cat food in exchange for her leaving my crap alone. I think she secretly understands me and defies me....just like my kids! :)

Mondays, Special Notes, & Butts

Mondays are not Fundays for me. I treasure sleep. I remember I used to sleep in until 9am or so. And I love those days when you don't have to leave the house, so you can stay in jammies and have hair that is sticking straight up. Those days have long passed. I can hardly remember a day when we didn't have to leave for something.

I did find a special surprise this morning. It helped my morning go a bit easier.

This note was better than my cup of coffee when it came to getting my butt in gear!

Speaking of butts, btw, mine is a tad smaller! I have lost 10 lbs!!! Ten stinking pounds! It sure feels like it should be more, but it isn't. I am doing it the right way though. I am eating healthy and exercising some. I am no longer in my 20's so I don't expect it to drop off overnight!

Making Stuff....

I got busy this evening! First I spruced up some clothing with iron ons! I ordered them on Etsy from here. She is the nicest seller, and the iron ons last. I sometimes put a stitch around them or a zig zag one, but not always, and I never run into any problems.

And I have been busy making owls for a Fall party. I haven't stuffed these yet or sewed up the bottom, but I wanted to show them off. I think they are so cute. I might have to make one for me. Lately I have been gravitating to bright colors. I think it's cheery. In between the wings is a little pocket for kids to hide a treasure or two. I hope they are a hit and not a miss.
