Someone recently bought Mimi a Bratz doll. Kevin and I were disgusted, and confiscated the doll. Since Mimi is 3 1/2 yrs old, it was difficult to explain our reasoning. What do you think? Will you let your kids play with these or will you buy them as gifts for other children? Or do you think they are far too sexual and inappropriate?

A Felt Board
This project has become more meaningful than I imagined. The kids spend so much time playing with this. Mimi loves to create stories, and then tells us what is going on in her story. Moe likes to do silly things like putting fish in trees. This makes him laugh a lot. I enjoy watching them work on it together.
I have oodles of felt. The board is an old puzzle whose pieces are missing. Simply glue flannel or felt to a board. Then make anything you can imagine out of felt. It was fun to include Mimi and Moe in this process. They had many suggestions. Moe wishes I would make more than one car. Mimi wants more people.
You can illustrate counting and numbers:
I think the possibilities are endless for this thing. I am thinking of ordering the alphabet from here. I think it would be fun to do stories like "I know an old lady who swallowed a fly..." etc.... Also, I suppose you could mount the board onto a wall, but I prefer having it portable.
Go make felt things. It is FUN!

Nose pads & Corn
Tuesday, August 5, 2008
Ugh. Is it Friday yet?

Moe came into our room around 7 am today, and said "stuck, help." I looked at him and immediately saw a green thing in his nose...He then pushed it up his nostril. Despite our best efforts, we could not get it out. We took him to his pediatrician who, with the help of three nurses holding him down, was able to finally get out the crayon. First they had me blow in his mouth while they closed the empty nostril....I did this 4-5 times, and the crayon became dislodged. Then they were able to get it out with a little hook. It was lime green and about 1/3 the length of a crayon! His doctor did say that once a kid goes through something like this they almost never repeat it...so, fingers crossed.
I am going to go put up the crayons...just in case....

I have no idea where this recipe came from, and I have altered it some. Let me know if you make it! :)
Zucchini bread
3 cups of flour
1 tsp salt
1 tsp baking soda
3 tsps cinnamon
1/4 tsp baking powder
3 eggs
2 cups sugar
3 tsps vanilla extract
1 cup corn oil or veg oil
3 cups grated/diced zucchini
1 cup chopped walnuts (optional)
This will make 2 loaves. Bake at 350' for 1 hour!!
YUM! YUM!!
YUM! YUM!!
SECRET TIP!! When you are pouring the batter in the bread pan, stop after pouring in half, and sprinkle some extra cinnamon on it! Then pour the rest on.
Since this makes two loaves, share with a friend!
